What offset actually measures
Offset is the distance in millimetres between a wheel’s mounting face and its true centre line. A positive offset pulls the wheel inward toward the suspension; a negative offset pushes it outward toward the fender. It is printed next to the size — 18x9.5 +38 means a 38mm positive offset.
Why it matters as much as diameter
Two wheels can share a diameter, width and bolt pattern yet sit centimetres apart on the car. Get offset wrong and you risk rubbing, poor clearance or an aggressive poke you did not intend. Cross-check against your vehicle placard and any suspension changes before ordering.
